The Project

Map of Experiences across Europe

Polls conducted in ’20 in 25 countries found that anti-immigrant sentiment increased compared to ’19 due to COVID-related insecurities and fears. The damage that the pandemic has wrought on integration policy measures is evident.

Germany reports significantly fewer people starting an integration course in 2020 than in the previous year. The number of new entrants has dropped by nearly 40%, and recent research by the German Federal Office f. Migration & Refugees (BAMF) in 2021 reflects that contact with citizens has decreased among refugees due to the pandemic.

As a result, there has been a deterioration in the migrants’ language skills and a regression in the integration process.

This project addresses the urgent need to create alternative learning paths that consider the emotional dimension of male and female students. Furthermore, the implementation of innovative pedagogical strategies involves not only pedagogical backgrounds, but also specific experience in the sector, investment of time for development and pilot teaching phases.

Research by the European Commission (’19) and the large study by Stathopoulou on trainers of people with migrant backgrounds in Europe report that there is a lack of materials specially designed to meet the needs of people with migrant backgrounds and that teachers are generally not trained to deal with the specific needs of people with a migrant background.
